Artist Haytham Najjar describes collecting material from elders in Idlib neighbourhoods and villages. His troupe’s dance names include Sharqiya, Qawsariya, Sajiya and Murabba‘a; these are local performance labels, not automatically separate song forms.
Historical milestones
Reported by sourceThe interview dates Al-Mahr al-Ghali to 1976 and Sahra Taht al-Zaytouna to 2007, the latter addressing Ibrahim Hananu’s resistance and women’s role. These date staged productions, not the origin of their inherited songs.
