The Kurdish Institute of Paris describes the dengbêj as narrator, keeper and creator of sung poetry. This role is not all Kurdish music; each text has its language, narrator and transmission.

Reading & comparisonJazira is a research region, not a proven birthplace for every Kurdish song. Village, dialect and recording must precede attribution to Qamishli, Afrin or Kobani.
